Remembering that I don't have a workshop and much to Er Indoors distain, I hijack her kitchen work surfaces to work on and these vices are crucial to some of my misguided efforts.
I own a very small one (how many men would admit to that) and a medium sized one (that too). Having returned to the garden railway and the DIY turnout, I discovered that my medium vice had vanished without trace. One does wonder if this might be slight of hand and a anti hijacking attempt, employed by the boss of the kitchen! So the hunt for a new one was one.
Missing: Have you seen this vice.
I was shocked to see the price range was now £13 to £25 for the same one. It was whilst looking for the best price including postage, that I came across the new weapon of choice in my model making arsenal.
The Stanley MaxSteel Multi Angle Vice.
It does exactly what it says on the tin or rather sort of box. You can set it at almost any angle, so no more strange body contortions and at £18 direct from my local Axminster Tool Centre (see links), I have bought a far superior vice for the same money it would have cost to buy an identical replacement to the missing one! It's already working hard holding my Dremel, whilst I attempt to mutilate brass rail into garden railway turnout blade's and I am sure it will see many other uses in the near future.
